Emotional Support Animal (ESA)

Requirements for TVCC Residence Halls

  • Submit the ESA request form (available online through TVCC).

  • The prescription/letter for the ESA must be written by a licensed professional:

    • Not a family member.
    • Must understand the difference between an ESA and a Service Animal.
    • Must be qualified to diagnose the condition related to the ESA request.
    • Must have an established, in‑person treatment relationship with the student.
    • Must reside and practice in the same state as the student.
  • The prescription must:

    • Be written for the current academic year.
    • State which residence hall building the ESA is needed in.
    • Be renewed every academic year with a new accommodations request.
  • Internet-only certificates are not accepted as documentation.

  • Students must provide proof of obedience training for the ESA.

  • All therapy and documentation must come from face‑to‑face treatment (no teletherapy, phone calls, video calls, or online evaluations).

  • Fraudulent documentation will result in immediate suspension from the residence hall.
