Accommodations

Students with disabilities who are taking or planning to take TVCC dual credit or PINNACLE courses may receive appropriate accommodations. To do so, the student must disclose their diagnosed disability to the TVCC disabilities coordinator (Melinda Berry) or the local campus ADA liaison. Students are responsible for completing and submitting the TVCC Request for Accommodation Form. Counselors may help deliver documents, but all forms must be signed and dated by the student.

Students must meet in person with the disabilities coordinator or ADA designee and provide documentation supporting their diagnosis. Documentation must include:

  • A date within the last 5 years
  • A current disability diagnosis
  • Evaluation methods used
  • Functional limitations and severity
  • Educational impact
  • Treatments/medications and their effects
  • Diagnostician’s credentials
  • Recommended reasonable accommodations for college-level work

(See the Handbook for Students with Disabilities for more details.)

College courses are not modified for dual credit students. IEPs and 504 plans do not apply. Students must meet the same academic standards and skill requirements as all other college students. They are encouraged to meet with the coordinator before classes begin to understand available accommodations and resources.

To earn college credit, students must:

  • Be qualified for college-level work
  • Meet essential course requirements
  • Meet academic standards

Examples of accommodations NOT allowed include:

  • Modified/alternate tests (e.g., word banks)
  • Use of an aide/para-educator
  • Reduced coursework or assignments
  • Small group testing
